I bought a top up ticket issued by ATM spa from the station at Molino Dorino so I can use it on the 7th September 2024 to get from the Poli Hotel station in San Vittore Olona to Legnano from where I planned to catch a train to Busto Arsizio and from there to Malpensa Airport.
When I boarded bus z601 I tapped the ticket against the scanner by the bus driver and he told me I must tap it in the back of the bus.
I walked to the back of the bus and the scanner displayed the sign FUORI SERVIZIO.
Two men entered the bus at 18:10 to check tickets.
I assumed they came in with a mobile scanner so to replace the non-functioning scanner inside the bus.
I confidently gave them my ticket as I know it has sufficient funds to cover for this short bus trip.
They demanded to see the receipt of purchase of my ticket.
I was carrying a large shopping bag and had no idea if I even threw the receipt into the bag or into my rucksack and so I frantically tried to find it.
As we arrived in Legnano train station and I did not want to miss my flight I agreed to pay a 41 Euro fine.
The two men demanded to see my ID so I handed them my passport.
I highly doubt it is legal for a transport company that issues a ticket to demand a customer keep the receipt of purchase (why do they even issue a magnetic card of they must see a receipt?).
I demand the 41 Euro fine I paid returned to me and I suspect the company is illegally keeping it's scanners out of order and is not providing its ticket controllers with mobile scanners so it can slap hefty fines on unsuspecting customers.
